ROLE OF AERODYNAMICS IN AUTOMOBILE
WHY DO CARS GETTING AERODYNAMIC BODY? HOW DO IT EFFECT THEIR MOTION
WHAT IS AERODYNAMICS?
Aerodynamics is the study of what role air plays on object travelling through air at a certain speed. Aerodynamics help us to study positive and negative effect of Air
HOW DOES AIR EFFECT MOVEMENT IN CARS?
When cars move through air at high speeds, The air apply 3 type of forces on the car.
- DRAG FORCE : Drag force act opposite to direction of velocity and resist the motion of car. Drag force can also be called as "Resistive force by Air"
- LIFT FORCE: Lift is a force which is perpendicular to the drag force and velocity . It act upwards to the car
- DOWNWARDS FORCE: This is a force which act downwards and 180 degrees to the lift force
When the car travel at high speeds this 3 forces violates the movement of car and effect its motion along the road .
AERODYNAMIC STRUCTURE OF CARS
Aerodynamic structure are adopted in new cars to make them maximum resistive to drag, lift and downwards force . An aerodynamic body is very fluidic and do not allow air to get trapped inside the body and create high pressure inside the body which tends to lift the car from road . Aerodynamic structure cuts off the air and move with more efficiency .
DRAG CONSTANT OF AERODYNAMIC BODIES
The cars are made aerodynamic to reduce the drag constant. Higher the aerodynamic structure less is the drag constant and less is the resistive force acting on the car .
drag constant directly effect the net velocity of the car .
